Quick Overview
Battery Powered tool designed to strip High-Temperature Insulation (PTFE etc.) from wires and cables ranging from #30 – #40 AWG.
Description
PTS-40S Thermal Wire Stripper is battery operated tool designed to efficiently strip High-Temperature (PTFE etc.) insulation from solid, stranded or shielded wires in the range of 30- 40 AWG. and can produce over 100 strip per full charge. The patented design features laser cut Nickel-Chromium heating element, which heats up quickly (less than 4 seconds) to an optimal temperature of 1700°F. There are several methods that can be used to strip insulation from small gauge wires. These methods are shown in our video section. Please note that wire sizes as low as #56 AWG can be stripped using the PTS-40S and the PTS-300S.
The extremely thin heating element produces negligible amount of fumes and therefore the use of these strippers does not require special ventilation. The fumes produced by thick element designed tools should be exhausted.
The low mass, guarded element design minimizes the risk of burns, eliminates nicks and broken strands of conductors and reduces lead pull on sensitive components. This comfortably sized handheld tool operates on single “D” cell rechargeable 1.2 Volt NiMH battery.
The element design features wedge type heated slot where the insulation is thermally separated for an easy slug removal. Please note that all wires are stripped directly at the heated end of the stripping element. The friction of small gauge wires against the insulation is very low so there is no danger to damage the element while pulling off the slug.
Of course, there are no nicks because of the rounded edges of the stripping element. The heated section of the element is also protected by an element guard, thus reducing the risk of burns. The segmented design of the studs helps dissipate heat thus reducing the risk of burns even in prolonged use. The weight of the PTS-40S tool is 14oz. (0.4 kg.).
Each model is equipped with different element mounting hardware which must be assembled in a certain order otherwise the tool will not work properly. Please carefully observe close-up pictures of the 5 available models to see the difference in element mounting hardware. It is not economical to keep switching elements and hardware designed for other models in order to extend the wire stripping range of a single tool.
NOTE:
We do not recommend switching High-Temperature stripping elements once fully energized (DISCOLORED)!
The discolored portion of the element was annealed. It lost its strength. It bends and distorts easily! It can be therefore easily damaged when screwed and tightened to the posts. The damage is caused by friction and torque transferred to the element in the process of screw tightening.
NOTE:
The operator may remove insulation with this tool because of a fixed calibrated stripping section, which eliminates conductor scraping. Weapons specification WS-6536E does not permit this when other thermal strippers are used.
